![]() Loton Park Hill Climb - July 29th 2007 David Humbert attended the Loton Park Hillclimb. Here is his report and some of his photos. A select group of AMOC members came together to fill our own AMOC invited class at the Liverpool Motor Club and Hagley & District Light Car Club joint-promoted hillclimb at Loton Park on Sunday 29th July. We met for a very sociable dinner at the Lion & Pheasant in Shrewsbury on Saturday evening and were disappointed at ever more rain as we went our separate ways after a moderately pleasant but costly meal in a somewhat strictly-run restaurant. Fortunately, the rain was short-lived and had cleared by Sunday morning, allowing us a sunny and dry drive to the stunning location of Loton Park. The event brought together a marvellous mixture of hillclimb machinery from Terry Rogers aboard his Frazer-Nash Sports at one end of the scale to a Ferrari 250 GTO replica at the other. Bizarrely, these two chalk-and-cheese machines competed in the same class! Among the other competitors were good contingents of Austin Healeys, Scimitars, many hillclimb special single-seaters and our own band of 6 Aston Martins led by Roland Duce's magnificent DB3S/12. The rarely seen sun making its timely first appearance of summer for us warmed the course steadily throughout the day and we all managed to improve our times with each of our 4 runs up this marvellous hill. Class winner was Colin Kingsman in the DB6 who was the only one amongst us to break into 'the sixties' with a time of 69.92. Second in class was Tim Stamper with a best of 72.17 seconds. Third place going to Alan Wheatley making the climb in 75.20 seconds. David Humbert was 4th in his DB2/4 Mk II David's thanks go to Richard Bell for organising our AMOC presence at this meeting and achieving 'points-scoring' status for the event after the cancellation of the Speed Series round at Pembrey. We also appreciated the skillful running of the event by super-efficient clerk of the course Peter Lawton and his team who make Loton Park such an excellent and enjoyable venue.
